Quick answer
Plan a Zero Company squad around the mission’s jobs, not around a fixed “best squad.” Steam confirms an elite squad, operative archetypes, tactical abilities and combat synergies, but the official listing does not provide a complete squad-size or roster table. Assign complementary jobs, test one interaction and keep the mission context with the result.
The four-question planning pass
Before a mission, ask:
- What objective has to be completed this turn or phase?
- Which operative can create the first advantage?
- Who benefits if that action works?
- What is the safe recovery if it fails?
Possible jobs include creating an opening, controlling a threat, protecting an exposed unit, finishing a priority target or enabling a follow-up. The right answer changes with the objective and current ability text.
Test a composition without losing the comparison
Keep the mission, difficulty and the rest of the squad as similar as practical. Change one operative, loadout or ability choice. Then record what happened:
| Record | Why it matters | | --- | --- | | Mission objective | Defines the job the squad was meant to solve | | Operative job | Separates role from character popularity | | First ability | Gives the experiment an observable starting point | | Follow-up | Shows whether the squad can convert the opening | | Failure point | Identifies the next task instead of blaming the whole squad |
Continue to Squad Combat for the turn-by-turn decision framework. If the problem is a specific interaction, use Tactical Abilities.
Keep roster questions bounded
Searches for squad members, clone-focused teams and maximum squad size are valid demand leads. They are not answered by the broad store description. Do not publish an exact roster, capacity or permanent faction-themed composition until the current client provides the facts.
Continue with combat synergies
Once the squad jobs are chosen, test the interaction in Combat Synergies.
