Quick answer
When the marketplace does not have the raw material your business needs, make one of two decisions: switch production to a product whose inputs you can reach, or source the material directly from the surrounding resource sites. The official economy diary names mines, quarries, woodland areas and farmsteads as possible direct sources, with stock and seasonal conditions affecting what is useful.
Do not wait for a made-up respawn timer or assume a fixed amount will always be available. Compare the next product cycle with the travel time, cart capacity, escort cost and robbery risk of a direct run. If the material is only useful for a non-urgent craft, pausing or changing the product can be the cheaper decision.
This page owns input-supply recovery. Market vs Storefront answers how to sell finished goods, while Automation, Carts & Workers answers repeated work and transport automation boundaries.
Decision tree: switch or source directly
| Question | Prefer switching production when... | Prefer direct sourcing when... | | --- | --- | --- | | Is the current product urgent? | The next product can keep the business active | The missing material unblocks a high-value or time-sensitive task | | Is a nearby site useful now? | Travel would consume the window or a required cart | A mine, quarry, woodland area or farmstead can supply the next cycle | | Is the cart route safe enough? | Escort and travel cost erase the reason to continue | The input value justifies the route and its protection | | Is the condition temporary? | The shortage looks tied to season or current supply | The site is the clearest current source for the needed input |
The table is a planning aid, not a hidden production formula. Read the current map, season, stock and cart state before committing.
When the marketplace is empty
Start by identifying the exact input and the product it blocks:
- Check the business recipe or current production task.
- Confirm that the marketplace entry is the correct material rather than a similar item.
- Check your warehouse, shed and cart stock before buying or travelling.
- Decide whether another product can keep workers productive.
- If the input remains necessary, inspect the surrounding resource sites.
The official economy material presents the core loop as buying cheaper materials, crafting and selling finished goods. It also explicitly raises the case where the marketplace does not have enough stock and recommends either changing products or collecting from resource sites.
Where direct resources fit
The current official source names four resource-site categories:
- Mines for the material types the current site exposes;
- Quarries for the material types the current site exposes;
- Woodland areas for available natural inputs; and
- Farmsteads for available farm-based inputs.
The source also uses berries as an example of an item whose availability can depend on season. That supports checking season and site state; it does not support a universal seasonal table or a fixed stock timer for every resource.
Open the current building or resource overlay, verify what the site offers now and record the route before sending a large cart. A name in the source confirms the type of site, not the exact amount in every run.
Price the whole run, not just the input
A direct run has more than a material cost. Consider:
- time away from production;
- the cart's available slots and current integrity;
- the distance to the site and the return trip;
- the cost of an escort when the route leaves city safety; and
- what the finished good is currently worth through the marketplace or storefront.
The official economy diary warns that a large cart can be tempting but may need an expensive escort to return safely. Treat that as a risk check, not a guarantee that every route will be attacked or every escort will pay back.
If the shortage keeps returning
Repeated shortages are a signal to review the production chain:
- keep a reserve of the next input when storage allows;
- avoid committing every cart to one route at the same time;
- check whether a different product uses a more reliable input;
- compare direct sourcing with market timing; and
- test one change before handing the cycle to a repeating task or business master.
This keeps the sourcing problem separate from worker productivity. If inputs are present but output is slow, use the worker productivity and Handicraft guide.
Current build boundary
The official Steam record checked on September 13, 2026 schedules Early Access for September 17, 2026. The Economy and Events diary says economy systems are still in active development. Exact stock generation, respawn timing, yield, price and seasonal tables therefore require the launch client or a later first-party source.
Frequently asked questions
What do I do when The Guild 1 Remake has no raw materials in the marketplace? Check your own storage, switch to a product with available inputs or source directly from mines, quarries, woodland areas or farmsteads. Compare the full travel and escort cost before sending a cart.
Where can I get raw materials in The Guild 1 Remake? The official economy diary names mines, quarries, woodland areas and farmsteads as surrounding resource sites. Check the current site state and material prompt in the client.
Do resources respawn on a fixed timer? The current official source does not publish a universal respawn timer or stock-generation formula. Do not replace the current site state with a copied number.
Are some resources seasonal? The official diary gives berries as an example of an item that only grows in summer. Use that as a reason to check season-sensitive availability, not as a complete seasonal table for every resource.
Should I use the largest cart for a shortage run? Not automatically. A larger cart can carry more, but distance, integrity, escort cost and robbery risk can change the better choice.
