Quick answer
The current official notes describe three different levels of automation, and they should not be merged into one promise:
| Current status | What the source supports | What you should expect | | --- | --- | --- | | Current demo | Idle workers can be batch-assigned, unassigned and set to repeat certain tasks | You can reduce repeated worker clicks inside a business | | Early Access start | A family member can be assigned as a master of one business and manage production tasks | A first business-management automation layer, with oversight still needed | | Planned during Early Access | Broader economy and cart automation work is part of the development direction | Do not assume material runs or every cart trip are hands-off at launch |
So, can you automate workers? Some worker tasks can repeat in the current demo, and the official launch roadmap describes a first business-master automation iteration. Can you fully automate carts? The current official material does not describe every cart or resource run as automatic. Keep cart routing, funds and risk under review until the launch client shows the exact control.
This page owns the automation-status question. Use Raw Materials Missing? when the bottleneck is input supply, and Worker Productivity when the issue is output rather than assignment.
What the current demo can repeat
The official Demo Update #1 adds batch assignment for idle workers and lets you assign workers to repeat certain tasks. It also adds a business-management interface for setting tasks to repeat. That is useful automation inside a business, but it still depends on the worker, task and available inputs being in a workable state.
Use the demo control in this order:
- Select the idle workers who belong to the same business.
- Assign the task or good once, then enable repeat when the task is one you want to run again.
- Check whether the input, storage and worker state still allow another cycle.
- Unassign or change the task when the next production decision changes.
- Record whether the problem was assignment, missing material, storage or transport before adding another layer of automation.
Batch assignment does not create material, expand storage or protect a cart on the road. Those are separate business decisions.
What the Early Access roadmap says
The official Road to 1.0 note lists a first iteration of automation for the start of Early Access: assign a family member as master to one business so that the master manages production tasks while the player receives the profits. The family member must first join the guild of that profession. The same note warns that this early version can interfere with plans by using funds or carts the player wanted for other things.
That means the first automation layer should be treated as delegated business management, not as a guarantee that the business is independent of the player's decisions. Check the family member's guild membership, the assigned business, available funds and cart needs before relying on the master.
What cart automation does not mean yet
The official economy material frames cart management and the broader economy as active development. It also describes the practical cost of sending a large cart to a resource site: travel takes time, the cart can face risk outside the city walls and an escort may be worth the expense. These details make transport part of the production plan even when worker tasks can repeat.
Do not turn any of the following into a launch guarantee:
- a cart that automatically buys every missing ingredient;
- an escort that is always selected for a route;
- a business master that never spends funds or uses a needed cart;
- a repeat task that continues when storage or input conditions change; or
- a single setting that automates the complete production chain.
The correct answer after Early Access begins is the control and warning shown by the current client, matched to the current build.
A safe automation check
When a business feels too manual, test one layer at a time:
- Worker assignment: confirm the intended worker and task.
- Repeat behavior: run one repeat cycle and check the result.
- Inputs and storage: verify the next input and free storage before leaving it unattended.
- Business master: if using the Early Access feature, confirm the family member's profession guild and the business they control.
- Transport: review which cart or funds the business will need and whether the route is worth its time and risk.
If the cycle stops, classify the cause instead of calling automation broken. A missing input belongs to the raw-material shortage guide; slow output may belong to Handicraft, hiring and training.
Current build boundary
The official Steam record checked on September 13, 2026 schedules The Guild 1 Remake: Europa 1410 for Early Access on September 17, 2026. Demo controls and the launch roadmap describe different states. Recheck the exact automation labels and warnings in the launch client instead of combining a demo control with a future feature note.
Frequently asked questions
Can workers repeat tasks in The Guild 1 Remake? The official Demo Update #1 says workers can be assigned to repeat certain tasks, and idle workers can be batch-assigned. Treat this as the current demo control and check its input and storage conditions.
Can I fully automate carts at Early Access launch? The current official material describes a first business-master automation iteration and a broader cart-automation direction, but it does not describe every cart or material run as automatic. Check the launch client before relying on hands-off transport.
What does a business master do? The official Road to 1.0 note says a family member assigned as master can manage production tasks for one business while the player receives the profits. The family member must join the profession guild, and the early feature may use funds or carts that compete with your plans.
Is repeat-task automation the same as business automation? No. Repeat tasks reduce worker reassignment, while a business master is a separate Early Access management layer. Neither statement by itself proves automatic sourcing, selling or safe cart routing.
Why did my repeating worker stop? Check the current worker state, input supply, storage and task progress first. The official notes describe the controls but do not publish one failure formula that covers every business state.
