Quick answer
Choose the difficulty before you decide what a dungeon death is allowed to cost:
| Difficulty | Current official death rule | What it means for the next run | | --- | --- | --- | | Beginner | No penalty when a guild member dies; members do not permanently leave the guild | Use it to learn party behavior and dungeon preparation without the Conqueror character-loss stakes | | Conqueror | A member's level resets to 1 after death; a member may permanently leave depending on mood | Treat every deployment, party setting and recovery plan as a meaningful character-risk decision |
These are the current difficulty rules in Origin Studio's official update. Do not carry older demo-era claims about losing all equipment or a fixed 30–50% of gold into the launch conclusion; those claims are outside the current evidence here.
This page answers death consequences by difficulty. Use the guild-member mood guide for the ongoing mood decision and the party strategy guide for preparation settings.
Beginner: learn without permanent member loss
The official difficulty update describes Beginner as the mode for a more comfortable experience. A guild member's death carries no penalty in that mode, and guild members do not permanently quit the guild.
That makes Beginner useful for learning:
- how party strategy settings change a run;
- how supplies and healing behave;
- which dungeon warnings you need to read; and
- whether the party can complete its job before increasing the stakes.
No-penalty does not mean that every failed run is harmless to progression or that the party setup is correct. It only defines the official death and permanent-departure rule for this difficulty.
Conqueror: level reset and departure risk
Conqueror is the challenge mode. The official update says that when a guild member dies in battle, their level resets to 1. It also says that a guild member may permanently leave depending on mood, and that a departed member cannot be re-invited.
Before choosing Conqueror for a run, check:
- whether the member's mood is already fragile;
- whether the party has the supplies and healing settings the dungeon requires;
- whether the party includes a member below the recommended level; and
- whether the run's reward justifies the character risk.
Use the mood page when the risk is retention, not just combat power.
What the current rules do not say
The current official difficulty note defines the Beginner and Conqueror consequences above. It does not support repeating old demo wording about losing all equipment or losing a fixed percentage of gold as a general launch rule. Keep those historical statements out of the current answer unless a later launch-build source independently confirms them.
The same boundary applies to claims about exact item loss, exact gold loss, or a universal protection method. The difficulty mode and current client state determine the actual current run.
A safe difficulty decision
Use this order before a high-risk dungeon:
- Name the goal: learn the dungeon, clear it safely, or accept a Conqueror challenge.
- Inspect the current difficulty label.
- Check party level, mood and preparation settings.
- Confirm the warning before departure.
- If the consequence is larger than the reward or the party's current margin, use Beginner or improve the preparation before retrying.
This is a risk decision, not a universal ranking of the two modes.
Current launch boundary
The official Steam record checked on September 14, 2026 reports the full release as available, and the latest official launch announcement says the full version is officially out now. The difficulty rules in the official update remain the source boundary for this page; recheck the difficulty selector and departure warning in the current client if a later build changes them.
Frequently asked questions
What happens when a guild member dies in Beginner? The official difficulty update says there is no penalty when a guild member dies in Beginner, and members do not permanently leave the guild in that mode.
What happens when a guild member dies in Conqueror? The official update says the member's level resets to 1 and that a member may permanently leave depending on mood. A departed member cannot be re-invited.
Do you lose all equipment when a guild member dies? That older demo-era claim is not part of the current difficulty rule supported here. Use the official Beginner and Conqueror consequences instead of repeating a fixed equipment-loss statement.
Do you lose 30–50% of your gold after a dungeon death? The current official difficulty note does not establish that fixed gold-loss rule. This page does not present it as a current launch conclusion.
Which difficulty should I choose first? Choose Beginner when learning party behavior or a dungeon, and choose Conqueror only when the level-reset and possible permanent-departure risks fit the run you are willing to take.
